Drags Aloud - The Jack and Jill Days!

Drags Aloud

Drags Aloud was created with the merger of two of Melbourne's best know drag troupe's, The Showbags (Amanda Monroe and Jessica James) and The Manly Sisters (Jackie Stevens, Jillette Jones and Kris del Vayze) in early 2007.

On the success of their hit production shows The Sound of Music Drag Show (Melbourne international Comedy Festival 2007 and Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2007) and Grease - The Drag show, the two troupe's decided that a join production name should be taken to avoid confusion.

After much discussion on a new name for the troupe, the name "Drags Aloud" was taken from the Channel 31 Television Series, of which all cast members had been apart of.

The Original Drags Aloud line up was Jackie Stevens, Jillette Jones, Kris Del Vayze, Jessica James, Amanda Monroe, Girl DJ and also featured the amazingly creative Roxy Bullwinkle.

Miss Bunny (a former Showbags Member) joined the team as a temporary replacement in March 2007, and Christina Andrews worked as the troupes understudy for Grease The Drag Show and later Sound of Music - The Drag Show in Edinburgh.

Rounding out the team was Jennifer (Promotions), Sam (front of House) Armen (the Lighting Man), Alan (Dresser) and the award winning GuyDJ (Sound).

Drags Aloud's home bases were Templebar Precinct in Collingwood, and the now demolished Newmarket Hotel in St Kilda Melbourne.

During Jack and Jill's run in Drags Aloud, the troupe made a number of achievements, including:

 - Melbourne's Longest running Drag Production Show (Sound of Music)

 - Rainbow Award - Best Show (Sound of Music)

 - Best new Venue Event  (Spag n Drag @ Templebar)

 - First Drag Troupe to travel overseas on an official Engagement since the 1970's

 - First Australian Drag troupe to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival

 - Directors Commendation for the 2007 Melbourne International Comedy Festival

In October 2007, Jackie and Jillette formed The Jack and Jill Show, Melbourne's favourite Dinner and Drag experience, performing weekly at Templebar Precinct in Collingwood.
